SHE'S A PUNK ROCKER

When the MTV crew brought their VJ, Ruby Rose to the Gold Coast for their annual MTV Summer Party, Alyce Lees, Artistic Director for Oscar Oscar Salons in Broadbeach, was on hand to create a punk inspired hairstyle for the party.

“With Ruby’s signature disconnected short crop we blowdried the hair using Aveda Volumising Tonic, taking the sides forward and the front back for maximum body and then created a matt finish by piecing her hair with Aveda Light Elements Shaping Wax to separate and create texture. We finished her look with Aveda Control Force hairspray to last the duration of the event. We also coloured and cut Ruby's hair before the event to freshen hair look, which also included some great fuschia and green highlights, which perfectly suit her punkish style.” - Alyce Lees

Disco Fever

The recent runway shows have been like a 70s revival party with Marc Jacobs, Top Shop, and Sonia Rykiel all creating disco-inspired hair styles that were too good to not want to try at home! Oscar Oscar master stylist, Paloma Rose Garcia, has created some top tips to be able to recreate this retro look at home.

“These styles would have taken hours to do for these runway shows, as the hair would have been wound around thick wire and then clamped with a styling iron. However, with a crimping iron you can create a similar look in less than half the time! When creating this look first prep the hair with a volumising product, such as Aveda Phomollient Styling Foam. Once the hair is dry crimp all of the hair, however leave 5cm from the roots, so that the hair is flat on top and wide at the ends.” – Paloma Rose Garcia

Keira has brought back the bob!

With her gamine features the gorgeous Keira Knightley could make almost anything look good but we think she looks devine in this refined classic bob cut, which she recently debuted at a Chanel show in Paris.

Oscar Cullinan, owner of Oscar Oscar Salons, shares some tips on how to recreate this style:

"This looks like is a classic graduated bob cut, with soft layers and a strong outline. The layers will still allow the hair to have movement even when the shape is quite defined. The style is best suited for people with fine or medium density hair and looks best when sitting on the jaw line as Keira is wearing it. Its a style that will suit all ages and face shapes, which is why it never really goes out of fashion." - Oscar Cullinan

Emma is gettin' Twiggy With It!

Oh Emma Watson how you have grown! You've elegantly transformed from Harry's Potters wand wielding sweetheart to a Burberry muse, Karl's BFF and a front-row fashionista. To top it of you are now looking divine in your Twiggy inspired pixie crop. Emma we love thee!

For those that are inspired by Emma's new pixie look director of Oscar Oscar Salons, Oscar Cullinan, has some top tips on this hair trend:

"The Pixie cut is best suited to people with fine, balanced features, as any prominent features will become even more noticeable because there is nowhere to hide with a pixie cut! Also make sure to adjust this look to go with the shape of your face, for example a round face may need longer layers and long face can be balanced with a longer fringe!

The cut itself needs to have short, choppy layers and is best styled with a wax, such as Aveda Light Elements Shaping Wax, to creating the perfect look and texture.

Floating on CLoud Nine

We have been literally floating on Cloud Nine since the arrival of these super-cool new styling irons.
