HOW TO: Sleek & Modern for the Elle Australia Party @ MBFWA

We are very excited that Elle magazine will be launching in Australia later this year and were thrilled to be involved in the official Elle magazine launch during MBFWA!

Our session stylist, Paloma Rose Garcia, was selected as one of the Redken Hair Directors for this event to create the sleek, modern looks worn by the models.

“The hair for the Elle launch party was a strong editorial look, with high-shine and amped-up glamour” said Paloma Rose Garcia

GET THE LOOK:

1. Use Redken Satin Wear and Rootful on the roots and mid-lengths and then blowdry the hair straight using a paddle brush.

2. Create a low side-part or a middle-part depending on how you prefer to wear your hair.

3. Comb the hair down very tight onto the head using a fine-toothed comb, do this in sections to get the best result.

4. Next paint Redken Hardwear gel onto the root section to keep the hair in place and to give it a high-gloss shine.

5. Finish the look with Redken Fashion Work hairspray.

HAIR HOW TO: Beach Chic as seen at MBFWA for White Sands

The White Sands show for MBFWA 2013 was a display of total bombshell beach babes, with sexy curls and curves in all the right places.

Our session stylist Paloma Rose Garcia was the hair director for this event working backstage with Redken to create the sensual beach chic hair.

“I wanted to create a softness in the hair and the backcombing at the crown gave the look a very 60s retro feel’ explains Redken Hair Director Paloma Rose Garcia

HOW TO GET THE LOOK:

1. Apply Redken Rootful 06 to the root area for lift. Follow by moussing the hair with Guts 10 for body and volume. Work the product through the mid-lengths and ends then completely dry the hair.

2. Create a low side-part. Use the center of your eye as a starting point, pulling back diagonally to the crown.

3. Start curling the hair from below the brow. Spray each section with Redken Fashion Works 12 hairspray wrapping the hair towards the face. Pin each section to the scalp and leave to cool.

4. Remove the pins and brush into shape to create a relaxed wave rather than tight curls.

PRODUCTS:

Redken Rootful 06 RRP $29.95

Redken Guts 10 RRP $29.95

Redken Fashion Works 12 RRP $26.95

HOW TO: The Messy Plait as seen at MBFWA

Our Sydney session stylist, Paloma Rose Garcia, created a Pocahontas inspired messy plait for the Flannel MBFWA show to suit the carefree styling and youthful edge of the Perth fashion brand.

“The inspiration behind this look was an American-Indian, almost Pocahontas-like look – very natural. The aesthetic coming through from Flannel is very natural, with lots of neutral colours and tones, so we wanted the hair to reflect that vision” said Redken Hair Director Paloma Rose Garcia.

“I almost imagine this beautiful, wild woman in the wilderness, her hair is a reflection of her free spirit.”

HOW TO GET THE LOOK:

1. Apply Rootful 06 root lifting spray from roots to ends until completely saturated

2. Using the tips of the fingers, very softly work the product into the hair with a hair drier on low setting.

3. When the hair is completely dry, bring the hair together low at the nape of the neck, letting tendrils fall naturally loose around the face.

4. At the nape, make a loose plait 3cm long then separate the lengths of the hair into two sections – top and bottom. With a hair tie, loosely tuck top section under to secure the plaint.

5. Finish with Fashion Work 12 versatile working spray for extra shine and hold.

Redken Rootful 06 RRP $29.95

Redken Fashion Works 12 RRP $26.95

STAFF INTERVIEW: ANNE-MARIE BUTLER

Our new Salon Partner for Oscar Oscar Salons in Pacific Fair on the Gold Coast, Anne-Marie Butler, talks about why she loves the new Burberry campaigns and her rock & roll style.

Tell us a little bit about what you do at Oscar Oscar Salons?

As Salon Partner and Artistic Director I specialize in classic cuts with an edge. All hair types and texture’s inspire me from long glamorous hair, bobs, men’s hair and especially finishing with my signature body blow-dries .

What is inspiring you right now?

For men’s hair my inspiration comes from the recent Burberry campaigns and band influences that are a little Indie with a rock and roll edge..

I also use Instagram a lot and follow celebrities like Nicole Ritchie, my favourite fashion labels and inspiring hair posts,  I love that with social media I get a constant feed for fresh new trends.

What are your hair predictions for 2013?

For women I think micro-fringes and messy long bobs. The androgynous military trend that is currently in fashion is perfect for this hairstyle.

For men I think the classic short sides and combed back at the top, like Ryan Gosling will stay in for a while. I would like to bring back the messy hair with full fringes for men too.

Your favourite celebrity hairstyle of all time?

It’s a tough one, either Emma Watson’s short cropped pixie cut and Alexa Chung’s messy bob.

Product you can’t live without and why?

Product I can live with out is Kerastase Bain Vital Dermo-Calm shampoo. It’s so gentle on sensitive scalps and it cleans hair without weighing it down

Describe your fashion style?

My fashion style is a little bit rock and roll and I love anything black with studs. I love clothes I am defiantly addicted to shopping!

What do you love most about Oscar Oscar Salons?

I love Oscar Oscar because it is a place where you can constantly learn and grow as a hairdresser, as it has amazing training and opportunities. I started my apprenticeship 11 years ago with Oscar Oscar Salons in Pacific Fair and now I am the salon partner with Oscar Cullinan, so I have moved the whole way through the ranks, from apprentice to stylist, to manager and now salon partner and I have loved every moment of it. It is a fun and professional environment and it’s a salon that sets the trends, not follows them.

POPPY @ HIGHPOINT

Famous fashion blogger Poppy Dinsey from WIWT visited our new salon at Highpoint Shopping Centre in Melbourne for a glamour blowdry and shared some of her hair secrets!

- What is your favourite celebrity hairstyle of all time?
I know it’s cliché but I still think the most classic style is Jennifer Aniston’s ‘Rachel’ cut. I also love Gwen Stefani’s look of peroxide blonde hair with dark brows, it’s something I’ve always wanted to try but have been too scared!

- Have you ever experimented with a crazy hairstyle?
Yes I had bright red hair – telephone box red. I loved it but it was very high maintenance, I had to dye it every week. I’ve also had some ‘Sun In’ bleaching disasters in my teenage years.

- Are there any hair trends you really love or really hate right now?
I really like the ‘dip dye’ look but it’s been a bit overdone in London now. My favourite style for my hair is the Bridgette Bardot-style half up ‘do.

- What do you think of Australian Fashion? Do you have a favourite label?
I love Australian fashion – the girls here are so effortless and natural. They all look so healthy and I love that they are a bit more casual than in Europe.

My favourite Australian labels are Gorman, sass & bide, Country Road and Cue.

- Have you enjoyed your Oscar Oscar styling experience?
I’ve absolutely loved it!! I’ve used a lot of different salons around the world and the Oscar Oscar experience has by far been the most relaxing and luxurious. The dark room where I had my hair washed and hand, neck, shoulder and head massages were amazing! Most of salons in the UK are stark white and clinical, Oscar Oscar was much more luxurious. The team at Highpoint was so lovely too.
