PALOMA FOR GRAZIA – CELEBRATING 25 YEARS OF PETER ALEXANDER

Our talented session stylist Paloma Rose Garcia from Oscar Oscar Salons in Sydney styled the hair for this weeks Grazia Magazine shoot which celebrates the 25th birthday of Peter Alexander sleepwear with the shoot ‘Sleep Over’.

I was so excited to work on this shoot, which was really fun and playful. We used various inspirations to create each look such as Brigitte Bardot and Kate Moss, for really brushed-out, soft glamorous hair.” – Paloma Rose Garcia

His Legacy Lives On

A true icon of our industry has sadly passed, no one has ever influenced me as much as the educational standard that was Vidal Sassoon.

Vidal Sassoon single-handedly redefined hairdressing in the last 50 years, particularly through the 60s and 70s and even into the 21st century.

May his legend and legacy still live on.

BEC & BRIDGE – BACKSTAGE MBFWA FOR GHD by Nadia Bailey

There are many different kinds of glamour, but the quintessentially Australian style is a sex-infused, just-emerged-from-the-surf laidback luxe. It was this very vibe that was championed at Paradiso Bianco, the Bec & Bridge high summer 2012/13 presentation at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia.

The collection was relaxed and sophisticated, showcasing wide legged trousers, cowl-back tops (exposing a seductive flash of tanned skin) and easy jumpsuits, with the hair styling designed to complement and enhance the mood conjured by the clothes.

I sat with star stylist Paloma Rose Garcia front row at the show, under a hazy wall of white flowers created by Grandiflora. It’s Paloma Rose Garcia’s tenth year at Australian Fashion Week, which makes her something of an authority when it comes to setting the hair trends we’ll all be wearing next season.

The look at Bec & Bridge? A low bun fixed at the nape of the neck, the kind you might casually twist your hair into after taking a quick dip in the ocean off the Amalfi coast. Paloma and her team used ghd AIR hair dryers (which Paloma described as producing “luxurious air”) on the models’ locks, along with ghd IV Mini Stylers to create a natural-looking wave and add movement. The hair was then pulled into a sexy, messy bun, with tendrils left loose to keep the style imprecise and carefree.

To achieve the wet-look hair, the team used almost an entire bottle of ghd Smooth and Finish Serum on each model, with a light application of lip-gloss applied on the hair around the forehead to stick the hair down for that sultry, balmy, hot weather effect.

Thanks to Oscar Oscar Salons for having me!

GINGER & SMART – BACKSTAGE MBFWA FOR GHD

Oscar Oscar Salons are backstage with all the fashion action this week for Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Australia.

Our talented pool of creative stylists are assisting ghd backstage with some of the biggest shows of the week.

Kyle Sarah, Style Director for Oscar Oscar Salons in Sydney was on-hand to style the neon-punk looks at Ginger and Smart, so read on for the insider secrets on how to recreate this look at home!

“The hair for Ginger and Smart was a fusion of polished perfection and disheveled punk which was the ideal match for the bright colour-blocked collection.

Each model was given hair wefts which contrasted with her designated outfits, the result was a fierce fashion moment with a mix of 80s London punk and modern global colours!” – Kyle Sarah

HOW TO RECREATE THIS LOOK:

- Using the ghd air professional hairdryer, blowdry the hair straight & sleek

- Next section the hair into 3-4 ponytails along your middle part

- If you want to add colour, secure coloured hair wefts at the base of each ponytail

- Now plait each ponytail leaving 2-3 inches free at each end.

- Now intertwine each braid to create the mohawk.

- Using the ends of each ponytail tease and spray the hair to create the desired look.

- Finish the look with a strong hold hairspray

INTERVIEW: JEREMY GASQUET

If you are a client of Oscar Oscar Salons in Sydney you would have had the pleasure of meeting one of our fabulous Salon Coordinators, Jeremy Gasquet.

We interviewed Jeremy about what is inspiring him right now, the fashion he loves and products he can’t live without!

What is inspiring you right now?

Winter fashion! We’re fast heading towards the colder months and my favourite part of winter is being able to dress up for it. I die for accessories and at the moment I’m obsessing over hats and this colder season’s trend of an overdose of texture. We saw a lot of hats on the runway for Autumn/Winter 2011-12 from the likes of Lanvin and Louis Vuitton and mismatched texture was everywhere – silk with fur, leather and knitwear, etc.

Your favourite celebrity hairstyle of all time?

Victoria Beckham’s dark pixie cut. It was super versatile and could be styled either au naturel, sleeked and side-parted or even up and quiffed. I loved it when it grew out too. I think more women should embrace their bone structure and have the confidence to rock a pixie!

Product you can’t live without and why?

The Aveda Intensive Hydrating Masque! It absolutely incredible! I have quite oily/combination skin and this masque is exactly what it says – intensive oil-free moisture. Your skin literately absorbs the product almost completely leaving beautiful, healthy new skin. (I’ve even noticed that if you’re dehydrated it absorbs faster!)

Describe your fashion style?

Fun, quirky, wide-ranging and sometimes androgynous. I don’t have a particular style I try to emulate, I just know what I like and I love putting together rather different looks everyday. When I’m out looking at pieces I am constantly asking myself ‘can I get away with this?’ and my usual response is ‘who cares – its fabulous!’ If you’re heading into Paddington make sure you check out all my get-ups!

The last song you played on your iPod?

Roses by Andre 3000.

What do you love most about Oscar Oscar Salons?

I love being so involved with the fashion and beauty world and I love the environment we have at Oscar Oscar in Paddington. The wonderful and fascinating clients who I love getting to know and the talented and beautiful staff!

I think having a warm, friendly environment is the start of where Oscar Oscar differs from other salons. We all happily help each other out as we all have the aim of making our clients feel and look beautiful. There’s never any animosity with my team and while my job can be incredibly hectic, that usually just makes it more exciting.

To book an appointment with our Sydney team phone 02) 9360 7739 and say hello to Jeremy!
